I suspect commenters so far have missed the fact that this isn't a fuzzy LLM-powered surveillance device. It actually doesn't require an Internet connection, it doesn't record or upload what you say to it, and it doesn't talk. It just senses your emotions and responds with cute noises. "AI" appears to just mean that it learns to recognize your voice and respond to you in unique ways. (To be fair, it's not obvious from the linked page.)

If you want the experience of a small animal, adopt a small animal. There are many right now living in non-optimal conditions in shelters near you that need permanent homes and they are actual living beings worth caring about, as opposed to this costly future e-waste.
