Andor is an incredible series that is only incidentally connected to star wars. In particular, the ability to slowly and organically ramp up tension in each of the major arcs is truly special.

> incidentally connected to star wars

I wouldn't call it incidentally. It's actually a very important story. It tells the tale about the early days of the Rebellion and how they sniffed out the construction of the Death Star, eventually leading up (and connected) to the events in Rogue One and A New Hope.

You could substitute the Galactic Empire with any generic dictatorship and Andor would still work.

I like the Andor writing and acting, but the directing has been more hit and miss. Some episodes feel more like reading a chapter from a book than watching a TV show. I wish they grabbed Alex Garcia Lopez, whose two Acolyte episodes are waaay above the rest.

Imagine it as a lengthy movie and it works best.

It's so sad that Disney burned some Star Wars fans so much that they will never give Andor a chance. It is such a work of art.

Indeed. There's a Star Wars movie out right now - the first for seven years - and quite rightly, no one cares. Only Andor and Rogue one were good since the Disney purchase and the reign of Katherine Kennedy, which is a below-random success rate.

Wow, you are right. There is a new movie out. I did not know until just now, and now that I know, I don't care.

I grew up during the prequel trilogy, I dressed up for the premiere of TFA.

What a sad state of affairs :(

Indeed - I was very excited for TFA, and even during a reasonable amount of it.

Rey was fine, though a bit boring, but the camaraderie between Finn and Poe was good, when it was allowed onscreen, and Finn in particular would've been such a great character - imagine a real treatment of a Force-sensitive warrior brought up in a fascist regime and the real conflict and change that would be required in them over three movies.

They are correct to not care - it's an absolutely terrible movie, as you'd expect.

Argh - I meant Kathleen Kennedy. I knew it looked odd.

That's exactly me. I mean, people told me the exact same things when TROS came out. It was horrible.

I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars, but I'm so happy to hear Tony Gilroy drawing direct parallels to the Empire and the current US administration.

> I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars

Andor is honestly a lot better than most of Star Wars. Heroes who are flawed and morally complicated; imperials who seem more like real human beings than cartoon villains.

I watch it and think of the β€œAre we the bad guys?” meme: lots of people advancing their careers in the Empire & shrugging at their own evil deeds mentally saying β€œ ok, but what can I do?”

Better than most of star wars? It's incomparably better than anything else star wars has ever done. It's one of the best series I've ever watched. Absolute privilege to be able to see it.

Really annoying but somebody used AI to transcribe whatever Tony said in his speech and interview, And it's really obvious because it's full of small mistakes

"New cycle" instead of news cycle "Catherine reel" instead of Catherine wheel

Is this the Star Wars equivalent of dressing up as characters from The Handmaidens Tale and being overly dramatic?
