I would love this set up on a color e-ink picture frame at the cabin (and would be willing to pay as a software product!). Can it be made to prep once and then run fully offline indefinitely? Looks like mostly, except the wikipedia fetch. But that's only a few MB of text data that could easily be cached.

Although I'm anti AI-image-gen (wouldn't there be CC0 images of these species?) this is really quite a charming little project.

I feel like I don't hear many bird calls in the city where I live, but maybe I'll have to set one up for myself to find out!

The Merlin App[0] created by Cornell works wonderfully for tracking bird calls. I like to sit by the river near my apartment and watch in realtime as the app updates while the birds are talking back-and-forth.

If you do start tracking birdcalls, I think you'll be surprised at how many you start hearing that you tuned out before.
