Rather, the word chosen is meant to imply being purposed, tasked, or burdened. For example, consider how Frodo was "chosen" to carry the Ring of Power in Lord of the Rings.

So your explanation is that god promised the land to the Hebrews just so could "burden" them by making it uninhabitable?Or something like that.
