There's a great documentary from a German public broadcast channel on this topic, including interviews with the scientists and doctors researching the problem, as well as patients affected by these diseases. There was some interesting research where they found "signs of fungal infection in all the [alzheimer's patients] samples and none of the controls". (https://www.science.org/content/blog-post/fungal-origin-alzh... 2015)not sure if that proved to be a thing. I tried looking it up at the time as my dad had odd nervous stuff but didn't get very far.

Antimycotic drug discovery was severely underfunded and neglected the last I checked when c. auris made headlines for taking over hospital equipment and walls in hard-to-clean ways. Perhaps AI and computational drug discovery can help remedy this.Antibiotics too and curtailing their abuse in viral-cause clinical and meat ag settings needs to be made law for the greater good(tm).
