Hungary's Orban concedes landmark defeat to centre-right opposition

This is the best news in years for a sovereign Europe. The planets may soon be briefly aligned for some badly needed reforms, which require unanimity among EU states. The crucial factor is that France and Germany are led by Europeanists who both want action. Potential spoilers Slovakia and Czechia can be persuaded, unlike Orbán's Hungary. The window may close with France's election next year.

Genuinely curious to hear from the folks flagging this. It’s pretty directly related to anyone doing business in or around Europe, and has direct implications for swaths of EU policy.

I find this kind of 'lol nothing can ever improve' mentality to be pointlessly cynical, boring, and reductive. Oddly, it's of a type I mostly associate with the so-called dirtbag left of the United States.

> I find this kind of 'lol nothing can ever improve' mentality to be pointlessly cynical, boring, and reductive.

You do know that all these politicians do not care about us (including Orban) and are power hungry and will betray us the moment they can?

Only a matter of time.

> Oddly, it's of a type I mostly associate with the so-called dirtbag left of the United States.

Knowing that these politicians are always for themselves and are self-centered (Especially in the USA) is not a "left" or "right" thing as they both do it.

So let's assume you're not some Russian troll... What happened in your life that makes you feel so miserable and act so pathetic?

Sounds like you're the troll with your "6 month account" telling anyone who has the tiniest disagreement with you is a "Russian troll" which is not a great start for a serious dialogue about this election which in this case, is an very interesting outcome.

We will see if the new government that enters into power keeps its promises.

So come back when you have calmed down and snapped out of whatever emotions you are currently under.

Nihilism is not a great start for serious dialogue either.

That word isn't quite correct. More like skepticism.

Being skeptical on this is just basic critical thinking and not blindly believing in peak honeymoon periods of political change such as this.

Now so as I said: "We will see if the new government that enters into power keeps its promises." and the test of time will prove when such promises will break or not.

Agreed on all counts. But the comment you are replying to is in fact something other than tiresome cynicism. It's propagating disinformation cooked up mostly in Moscow. The idea that Hungarians or any other Europeans are going to be "conscripted" to fight in Ukraine is laughably implausible. Luckily most people can see through these attempts at fearmongering and manipulation, as we found out tonight in Budapest.

Your propaganda is becoming a little too obvious, don't you think?!

Like what exactly? You're looking too deep into this.
