I moved to the mid-hudsoen river valley in the late 90s. It blew my mind that there was material going around saying it was *finally* safe to eat 1-2 fish a year that were caught in it.

Polution is a big deal.

Correct, for some individuals a single fish exceeds the recommended monthly max serving. But by splitting a fish with family members you can reduce your PCB consumption to acceptable levels (that's polychlorinated biphenyls, not circuit boards)

Sadly they had to close that loophole where so-called family "members" could claim individuality, bypassing the spirit of the legislation. Science has yet to determine where corporate personhood falls in this paradigm.
