"By this server's count, you are visitor number Warning: include(visitor_count.php): Failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/public/kagi.com/index.php on line 6!"

Possibly a unintentionally masterful gag example of how you'd see someone fail to set something up in php back in the day, or perhaps just a real error. :)

Also well done in the historical use of <table> and <center> tags for layout! In fact, I just realized Hacker News still uses that, I mean, hey no shade.

I literally had the same thought about the counter and went to see if there was an HN thread to post about it on :-). PHP4 on shared hosting was such an innocent time.

When you encounter an actual vintage site that has been online since the '90's, that's sometimes the only thing that breaks :)

There were no other dependencies.

Looks like the characteristic error message puts the final realistic touch on what the real thing looks like any more :)

How complete will today's websites render 30 years from now?

I was going to comment on this, and then I realized, wow I actually miss software bugs like this.

For those who see this tomorrow (not on April 1st) or are watching it on mobile, where it's stock kagi - here's a screenshot: https://f.laacz.lv/C4C1NkU

It looks like normal Kagi for me. Is this because I’m a subscriber?

As a last resort I would party like it's 1999 and clear my cache :)

Beautiful. I have tears in my eyes. Bring reasonable design back.
