It's funny and beautiful because I recognized the sounds from my country but less so those from other places, which obviously might be a bias due to me seeing where the pointer is at any moment but can also simply be explained as different geography and biomes would produce different sounds. Even a river will be mold differently and have a peculiar acoustic, which I never really think about until now and find fascinating.by tsylba

This is awesome! It would be great if there were more sound clips — maybe someone could make an app that lets anyone capture and upload GPS-tagged recordings. Moderation could be an issue though.by 1e1a

freesound.org is the perfect place to upload these. i'm using their api to scan new sounds that are geotagged and put them on the mapby alentodorov

Curious why the large majority of the clips are about water. If that's spontaneous, maybe it's interesting psychologically.by RagnarD

If you walk very early in the morning looking for something to capture while everyone is asleep, chances are the water bodies (ocean, river, lake, ..) are somewhere you know that you can plan to go to, and also they are reliably in the same place - so if say you forgot and took dead batteries, your cable failed or you got the wrong mic, you can try again on the next day.Capturing other things may be harder - a bird may not be there, the wind may change from day to day and so on. Water is usually satisfying to hear and a good subject to experiment and explore when you are beginning in field recording.
