policy based model bans are gonna be messy to enforce. teams will proxy through vendor stacks and lose visibility anyway. better approach is auditable usage logs plus red team eval gates on sensitive workflows.

The state department is proving themselves far more competent than the defense department. This just looks like further evidence to the poor leadership. "Pete the Pathetic" looks to be using ham fisted measures to try and make companies compliant to his will. Zero precision or intelligent application of force.

This is part of Pete Hegeseth’s threat to cripple Anthropic because Anthropic stipulated that they cannot use Claude for mass surveillance or for killing people. Note that Hegseth and the defense department broke Anthropic’s terms when they used Claude as part of the Venezuela invasion.

Venezuela was executed precisely in part because Hegseth was sidelined. This is SecDef throwing a hissy fit because Rubio can run his department better remotely than he can running around trying to make homoerotic workout videos.

Claude is good. It worked in Venezuela. Sidelining it because Hegseth is being a snowflake is how we lose wars.

I dare you to find an era of history when the dominant military power losing wars it started worked out well for anyone. Its citizens. Its neighbours. Even its enemies, who may profit in the long run from the instability but still bear its costs in the short.

The best is peace. Second best is fewer folks feeling they have to blow shit up to soothe a wounded pride.
