Unfortunately the site breaks with HTTPS and modern browsers (mixed content isn't allowed anymore, and they never updated it). It has to be http://.

The LHC is a discovery machine, so a large number of searches for new physics as well as measurements of known physics can take place at the same time.The idea that it is a single-trick experiment is a misconception. Its a quantum statistical experiment where proton collisions at high energy yields random particles based on the probability of specific interactions taking place.

Probably notMany old monitoring programs just literally generated graphs like these using input data and outputted a static image on a cron/tick. "Expensive" once, then cached... in the form of the image
